Who is Jake?
Artist though he may be, Jake is no enigma. With friends and enemies in several countries, Jake (born in 94) is known for being headstrong and stubborn. He can also be kind and caring- but saves that for his friends.
Frequently mistaken for a foreigner in his own country, Jake actually originated in Northern England. Now living in Manchester, he is frequently spotted taking photos of Graffiti which is, in his words, "better than anything in the art galleries."
His favourite foods in Japan were doughnuts from Yamazaki Daily, and the Chicken Teriyaki burger at MacDonald's. Germany... nada.
Just Jake and Chibi Bara
Jake says: "I always wanted to be an artist, and what I've learnt is that you can't wait for money or other people to validate your efforts. To do something with purpose is to live, so that's what I do. Chibi Bara is the company that I set up to support my business.
Chibi is an art style from Japan, characterised by small bodies, large heads, eyes etc, making the figures as cute as possible. It's well-known worldwide, which is how I heard of it.
Bara is another Japanese art style, less well-known. Drawn for men, by men, Bara is characterised by buff, bear-like men that look like they ate a rugby team. Excess muscles, with faces ranging anywhere from rounded and vulnerable to ruggedly handsome. Also, you can sure expect them to be hairy!
One way I differ from traditional Bara is that, in sexual expression, my characters are open, unabashed- even a little exhibitionist. There's no censoring, pixelating or blurring- as there is in Japanese pornography. Everything is bare and open for the informed viewer to enjoy. So please, enjoy
